Welcome to Peacock Hill - Pilates and Nordic Walking. My name is Loraine Hilton, I am married to Mark and we have four adult children between us. In my free time I enjoy cooking, entertaining, spending time with the family, and any activity involving the great outdoors but particularly walking, skiing, and horse-riding.
I have had many different professional lives but have always maintained an interest in health, exercise, science and outdoor activity. I first trained to instruct in exercise in the 1990's; teaching aerobics as an extra curricular activity at the seconday school in Cheshire where I taught business and economics.
In 2011, after moving to Cambridgeshire I had a back injury, and was advised to try Pilates by Hinchingbrooke Hospital. I have since become passionate about Pilates for its ability to keep me pain free and mobile. I trained and qualified as a Pilates Instructor in early 2017 prior to taking a gap year and my first years experience was gained teaching in Spain, mostly to expats aged between 40 and 70. At the age of 56, I can particularly relate to this demographic, the wear and tear on the body, the challenges facing us all as we begin to age, but more importantly how we can embrace the changes ahead by taking action to ensure we enjoy great health into the future.
I would recommend anyone to try Pilates, it is a controlled, precise, flowing exercise method, that does not get you sweaty, but does make you work hard. The key to achieving change and triggering the correct muscles, is through consistency, regular practice and commitment. My classes are small (maximum 12), friendly, but focused. If you can get down onto a mat and get up again at the end, pilates is for you.
My introduction to Nordic Walking came in 2018. As a lover of walking I was keen to find a walking exercise method to complement Pilates. Having considered Active Walking and Chi Walking, Nordic Walking struck a chord for me. With a strong emphasis on correct posture, and engaging the core I found the additional benefit of an aerobic workout to be the perfect partner to Pilates. Nordic Walking is for everyone, the poles improve your posture, your stability, and your pace, it is very sociable, and of course it is great to connect with nature and get outdoors. Try it once and you will be hooked.
